Welcome to the TUC's Hertfordshire website: TUC courses encourage everyone to learn in a friendly, supportive environment.

For much of the time you will work as part of a small group whilst the experience of all the course members is used to tackle real issues, build confidence and develop skills in trade union strategies and organisation.

The TUC and the college are committed to equal treatment regardless of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation or age. The aims of the TUC education programme include the equal participation by, and equal treatment of, all groups.

More information about these course follows on another page.

Can I get paid release from work?

The main way of obtaining release is through agreements with employers. Workplace representatives, shop stewards, staff representatives etc. have a legal right to attend TUC and union approved courses without loss of earnings under the Employment Protection and Health and Safety legislation. This is strengthened by the ACAS Code of Practice on paid release for further training. If you have difficulty in securing release you should speak to your senior representatives or union officer.

And don't forget, at the end of 2003 the trade union movement won an important Employment Tribunal ruling on allowing a rep to attend out 36 week Occupational Safety and Health course!
